Update for the Wintergreen community

Two years ago concerned members of this community met for the first time to publically discuss the concept of establishing an organization to help folks stay in their here homes as long as possible.

One year ago a pilot program was started to see if it could really work.

And now, as everyone is slowly making their way back to “normal,” we are seeing that HSW not only can work but thrive.

This is thanks to all of you for believing in us, for giving generously, and for helping as volunteers and advisers. We appreciate you one and all.

HSW is still evolving and getting better organized. Our volunteers are driving members to appointments, helping around the members' homes, and listening and caring. Regular gatherings have started. Just to provide an idea of how we are serving our members and volunteers, in November:

  • A group of members and volunteers met for dinner and conversation at Giuseppe’s.

  • There is a multi-session memoir writing workshop going on.

  • We will have our first technology workshop.

  • We are planning an event for volunteer recognition.

Looking ahead, a discussion on a caregivers’ support group has begun. And, while maybe not very exciting, work has started on a new Here to Stay in Wintergreen website to make joining, volunteering, donating, and staying informed easier.

That's just a taste of what has been done already and what is being planned.
